Overview
This in-service day is designed to be a one day program. However, it would probably be better to complete session one and three on the first day and session two and four on the second day. If this was done, the time for each session could be extended, especially the technology integration session (Session Three) and the integrated, project based unit session (Session Four). This would allow additional time to complete the tasks in these sessions more thoroughly.

Prior to the staff development day, the leadership team will need to complete the following tasks:
  • Assemble appropriate resources related to the content and technology needed for this staff development day. For example: Information related to educational philosophies, differentiation and multiple intelligences. A wiki will need to be set up for the staff to post portions of their lessons for the day.
  • Identify and install a variety of iPad/tablet applications for the staff to utilize today. There should be some general productivity apps for video, images, and audio in addition to several for each content area.
  • Assemble the staff into groups of teams based upon their content areas (foreign language, science, math, language arts, social studies, special education, unified arts). Additional staff should be considered as well and placed into the most appropriate group, unless a separate course is intended. (TAs, nurse, office staff, speech therapist, enrichment, etc). Teams will vary depending on the session:
      • Session 1 - Representation from each content area with a variety of grade levels
      • Session 2 - Grouped by content areas with a variety of grade levels
      • Session 3 - Grouped by content area and in smaller groups by self assessed technological skill level (“Proficient to Advanced Proficient” or “Beginner to Developing”). Each smaller group will have a tech leader/trainer)
      • Session 4 - Grouped by teaching team and representatives of the unified arts team. (If there is more than one teaching team per grade level, then the grade level should meet to collaborate on a theme and general direction of the project.
      • Survey interested staff members and assign staff with more advanced technology skills to assist with the technology integration session. It is recommended that a “train the trainer” session be held prior to this staff development day.
